The Freeman Center Staff
Mr. Doug Shipley, Director of Auxiliary Support

Mr. Shipley comes to us from Emory University where he served as Assistant and Interim Facilities Coordinator. He is a graduate of St. Mary's College of Maryland, where he majored in Sociology/Anthropology and Political Science. Mr. Shipley spent 1995 working in the Public Relations Department of the Baltimore Orioles Organization before earning his Master's Degree in Education at the University of Georgia.
Mr. Shipley oversees the operations of The Freeman Center, David Student Union, Scheduling, Summer Conferences and Parking and Transportation. He is also the Campus Safety Officer.

Mr. Greg Dale, Assistant Director of The Freeman Center

Mr. Dale is a 2003 graduate of Christopher Newport University with a B.A. in Recreation and Tourism. He served as an event staff intern during the 2002-2003 school year, and continued to work with The Freeman Center until graduation. Since then, Mr. Dale has worked with the City of Newport News Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Department in both the tourism division and also recreation division where he served as the Facility Supervisor of Midtown Community Center. His primary responsibility is event management, but assists the Director in all areas of daily operation.
Mr. Dale is also an American Red Cross CPR, AED and First Aid Instructor.

Ms. Lisa Wingfield, Trieshmann Health and Fitness Pavilion Director

Ms. Wingfield graduated from Old Dominion University with an M.S. Ed. in Exercise Science. She is certified by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM, Health/Fitness Instructor), the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA, Group Exercise Instructor, Kickboxing, Step and Personal Training), the American Aerobic Association International/Sports Medicine Association (Pilates) and Mad Dogg Athletics (Spinning). She directs all aspects of the Trieshmann Health and Fitness Pavilion, including front line staffing and training, group fitness class programming, personal training, fitness instructor and personal trainer staffing and training, fitness testing/assessments, fitness events and educational programs, and equipment inventory.
Lisa is also an AFAA Presenter and Examiner and an American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid instructor.

Ms. Brenda Giles, Administrative Assistant

Ms. Giles joins the CNU family after serving 12 years with the Newport News School System as an Administrative Secretary and bookkeeper. Her responsibilities are to handle all day-to-day items related to The Freeman Center main office, including accounting, scheduling, etc. She has been a resident of the Peninsula since 1973.

Mr. Bobby Jordan

Bobby comes to CNU after working at NASA for the Department of Defense as an Electronic Technician. He also served his apprenticeship with the C&O Railroad as a Maintenance Machinist. At The Freeman Center, Bobby handles all maintenance and repair items for the building and all of its equipment. He also supervises all housekeeping staff.

Ms. Mara Winters

Ms. Winters is a 2007 graduate of Christopher Newport University with a B.A. in Biology with a focus on health. As a student she served as part of The Freeman Center staff; starting as a Fitness attendant and was promoted to Building Supervisor in which she served 2 years in this position. In her current position her main responsibilities are management of the staff in hiring, scheduling and development of student employees. Along with her current position Ms. Winters is also certified by Aerobics and Fitness Association of America as a Group Exercise Instructor.
